Network Access Controls
IEEE 802.1X is a standard that defines access control to the network. Network access control (NAC) can preauthorize which devices can gain access to the network. Through policy, network administrators can define prescreening conditions prior to authorizing a new device to access the network. Prescreening may include scanning for device type, OS level, patch level, proper antivirus/antimalware protection, and minimum workstation security standards.
