Network Management

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) introduced Recommendation M.3010, a protocol model for managing open systems in a communication network. This model was called the Telecommunications Management Network (TMN). TMN defined four layers:

  • Business management
  • Service management
  • Fault and performance management
  • Element and configuration management

The main purpose of TMN was to provide a framework to align telecommunications assets to business goals.
