Ethernet LAN technology solved many business communication and connectivity challenges, and it did it at a lower cost than its early rival, token ring. Businesses and organizations were connecting their PCs and workstations with LANs. This connectivity provided the foundation to build departmental or workgroup applications and client/server applications.
