Trustworthiness: Staying true to convictionswith integrity and congruency.

Authentic leadership is described as an approach that emphasises building legitimacy through honest relationships that value an ethical foundation, truthfulness, openness and consistency. By building trust and enthusiastic support, authentic leaders are then best placed to improve individual and team performance.

Trusted individuals benefit from the support, drive and confidence that comes from having a strong following and so are more likely to remain consistently true to their own values and principles, whereas those who are not trusted enough will often compromise to obtain consensus or will become isolated.
