How to do it...

To be able to install the Edge Transport role on Windows 2012 Server and Windows 2012 R2 Server, there is a technical prerequisite, which is to install the Windows feature called Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services (AD LDS) by running the following PowerShell cmdlet:

    Install-WindowsFeature ADLDS

After the operating system roles and features have been installed, it is time to install .NET Framework 4.6.2. This is recommended for any Exchange 2016 version, but a hard requirement starting from CU5.
