How it works...
In this example, we are placing a hold on all public folder content, across all public folders, and for an unlimited duration. The -AllPublicFolderSources parameter stipulates to include all public folders in the organization in our search, and -AllSourceMailboxes excludes any mailboxes. You can use an in-place hold to place public folder content on hold, but if you select the option to search all mailboxes, you can't use the search to place a hold on any of the content sources of the search.
Next, we use the -EstimateOnly switch to specify that only an estimate of the number of items that will be returned is provided, and we set the -InPlaceHoldEnabled parameter to True to enable in-place hold on the search results.
