So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Waterfall chart for variance analysis
The waterfall chart visual is best used to show the contributions of individual values to an overall total. In this example, the variance between Internet Sales (Actuals) and the Internet Sales Plan by Sales Territory Country is visualized.
- Select the measure and dimension:
- Measures that can be positive or negative and dimensions with few distinct values are the best candidates.
- Create the waterfall chart:
- Add the measure and dimension to the canvas and switch the visualization type to waterfall chart.
- The measure will be in the y axis, the dimension in the category of the field well.
