It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Choosing a storage system for SQL Server 2005 data and log files is very important for overall I/O performance, storage flexibility, manageability, and scalability. We have discussed the different types of data transport interconnects that are available—SCSI, Ethernet, and FC—and the various data transfer protocol types—SCSI, iSCSI, FCP, and TCP/IP—and how they interact with the three main storage system configurations, DAS, NAS, and SAN. There are many factors to consider when choosing a storage system for SQL Server data.
