Log shipping has been a method for creating a standby database since SQL Server 2000. In fact, if you count homemade methods, log shipping has been around even longer. In SQL Server 2005, log shipping is still available, but it has been enhanced with the addition of SQL Server mirroring. SQL Server mirroring builds on log shipping technology but allows the standby system to be completely in sync with the primary system.
