In this chapter, I will discuss what is becoming one of the leading uses of encryption technologies. Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) is a framework of open standards for ensuring private, secure communications over Internet Protocol (IP) networks. This protocol is rapidly becoming the underlying framework for secure communications using Virtual Private Networks (VPN).
