Before you start to develop a design for a Dynamic DNS for a Windows 2000 network, it is important to understand its foundation, DNS. The Domain Name System is a service used on the Internet for resolving fully distinguished domain names to IP addresses. For example, say that you wanted to order a copy of this book to give to your best friend at the office. You need to go out to the Macmillan Computer Publishing Web site and order it. Which do you think is easier to remember? http://www.mcp.com or http://209.17.55.123? Most people would say http://www.mcp.com, and the Internet community recognized this as they were building the original architecture. And so DNS was born.
