This chapter has discussed what a VPN is and how you might use one. I discussed the two different types of VPNs in use: user to network and network to network. I also discussed the different types of security issues that using a VPN addresses as well as some of the features a VPN can provide. Next on the agenda were the different types of VPNs available on the market today. I briefly discussed the strengths and weaknesses of each implementation. No discussion of the Windows 2000 VPN service would be complete without a mention of the multitude of protocols supported, which I covered in detail.
