Administering COM+ Security

One of the most valuable benefits of the role-based security and authentication services available in COM+ is the fact that the developers can choose not to implement any security-related functionality inside their code. Instead of coding authentication and authorization, you can just configure the appropriate security policy on the component, interface, or even method level.

Windows NT and Windows 2000 provide system administrators with a complete set of tools that can help in configuring RPC, COM, and COM+ security features:

  • RegEdit— Registry Editor is a tool that lets you change the data in the Registry database manually. Keep in mind that its incorrect use can knock out the entire system, so be careful.
