I hope that this chapter has provided you some insight into the Kerberos V5 authentication protocol in Windows 2000. Kerberos has many benefits and improvements over NTLM. Kerberos V5 provides faster session establishment, transitive trust, and delegation of authentication. All these benefits equate to better network and server performance, interoperability in heterogeneous environments, and less intrusiveness to the network user.
