What About System Services?

The ordinary user can be unaware of many programs that run in the background. These programs are called services and perform many different kinds of functions. Most of these services are installed based on defaults or depending on the components you selected during the operating system installation. Other services can be installed by applications that you set up on the machine. To view and manage services on the local computer, follow these steps:

1.
Click Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, Computer Management. The Microsoft Management Console (MMC) program runs with the Computer Management snap-in.
