While IPv6 is designed with security in mind, the extension header may still be used as a source for DoS attacks. As mentioned previously, the presence of a Hop-by-Hop extension header will require all transit nodes along the path to process the header, consuming a lot of CPU. Similarly, when a large volume of packets with IPv6 destination extension header is forwarded to a specific host or server, it may consume a lot of resources on the server.
