How it works...
DNS is the major protocol used for name resolution, and it is used when browsing the internet. It is also used for working in an organization's network. The DNS standards describe three functionalities:
- Namespace, which is how the DNS name looks and how it is allocated
- The name registration process, that is, how we register DNS names and how they are forwarded through the DNS server's network
- The resolving process, that is, how names are resolved to the IP addresses
In this recipe, we will focus on the third subject, that is, what happens when we browse the internet, send or receive emails, or access internal servers in our organization.
