TCP is a highly reliable transport layer protocol used for connection-oriented host-to-host communication. End applications that are very sensitive to data loss can leverage TCP as the transport layer protocol. Majority of the internet traffic is dominated by TCP. It is extensively used by many applications, including email, peer-to-peer file sharing, and the famous WWW applications. TCP receives data from the application layer and segments it into data units, which will be encapsulated with the TCP header.
