Oracle 10g made this process simpler by introducing services where the workload is split and distributed among the available instances, and Oracle 11g further enhanced the services by tightly integrating the services with the Oracle Resource Manager and allowing distributed transactions in the Oracle RAC database using services. Also, Oracle RAC can relocate services among instances in response to planned and unplanned outages, which greatly extends the availability and scalability of Oracle RAC environments.
