Extended Oracle RAC Limitations
Oracle RAC on extended clusters is a very specific solution for customers who want to build business applications on extended clusters. However, it does not work well for long distances. Extended clusters have not been tested for distances greater than 100 miles. If the distance between the nodes is greater than 100 miles, the system should be carefully tested and prototyped before being implemented.
Extended clusters require a dedicated point-to-point high-speed network. They cannot use the public network, and setting up a DWDM or dark fiber may cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.
