In this chapter we discuss the key concepts and internals behind backup and recovery operations of Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC) databases. Basic backup and recovery methods for the Oracle RAC database are similar to those for single-instance databases, except in Oracle RAC we have redo records from archived redo logs from multiple instances. No special considerations for media recovery or any other advanced recovery mechanisms are required for Oracle RAC, so this chapter does not cover generic backup (and recovery) mechanisms.
