The internal mechanics of recovery are well beyond the discussion context of this chapter, yet it is important to remind you of some important characteristics of recovering a single instance (non-OPS or Oracle RAC). As mentioned earlier, the terms instance recovery and crash recovery refer to the same recovery aspect. The only notable difference is that in Oracle RAC, crash recovery involves all the instances. For a single instance, crash recovery and instance recovery are the same. Some of these points are also applicable to Oracle RAC databases because the mechanisms are basically the same.
