It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Database administrators and Web developers: why can’t they be friends? Developing effective Web applications requires the pooled talents of both. However, more often than not, an adversarial relationship exists between these two roles.
There are several DBA topics that every Web developer should know to work toward the same goal of developing effective Web applications. The Web developer and DBA should be pooling talents. There needs to be a common ground between the two groups. If developers had a better knowledge of DBA topics, they could be proactive and solve some potential problems without bothering the DBA.
