Backup and recovery are among the most important tasks performed by database administrators (DBAs). Sometimes, these tasks can be time-consuming and erroneous. It is critical for the DBA to set up a proper backup and recovery strategy and put it in place.
Before Oracle8, the Oracle DBA normally used customer-written scripts, Oracle7’s Enterprise Backup Utility, or third-party tools to perform the physical Oracle database backup and restore process. Oracle8’s Recovery Manager (RMAN) comes with Oracle8 versions and provides a better solution for an Oracle8 database’s backup and recovery.
