It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

ORACLE SQL TUNING
Oracle SQL tuning is one of the most overlooked areas of Oracle tuning. The individual SQL statements that comprise the requests to the database engine can be tuned — often with dramatic results.
Unfortunately, Oracle SQL tuning is one of the most complex areas of Oracle administration. Any individual Oracle SQL statement can have an execution plan that is quite complex, and it is never intuitive to the Oracle administrator which execution plan will lead to the greatest response time. Oracle Internals has solicited a wealth of information from Oracle tuning experts on maximizing the performance of SQL statements within Oracle’s library cache and ensuring that your Oracle database runs at optimal levels.
