affects branding. Next, you will learn how to properly plan for a SharePoint branding project and
you will learn about some simple branding techniques as well as how to work with the SharePoint
navigation. Each major technology involved in SharePoint branding gets its own chapter, includ-
ing Cascading Style Sheets, master pages, page layouts, Web Parts, and deployment. Lastly, some
advanced topics are covered, including working with the SharePoint 2010 ribbon, the client-side
object model, jQuery, and Silverlight.
HOW THIS BOOK IS STRUCTURED
This book is divided into three primary sections. Part I covers the basics of SharePoint and
SharePoint branding; Part II discusses more of the simple and intermediate SharePoint branding top-
ics; Parts II and IV cover the more advanced topics. The primary goal is to provide a reference for
the reader that would serve as a guide regardless of the reader’s specifi c skill level. Although you can
certainly use the book as a reference for specifi c topics, some of the examples throughout the book
build on each other. By the end of the book, you will have learned how to work with all the technol-
ogy needed to create a fully branded SharePoint site.
