Multi-Lingual User Interface (MUI)
Many organizations have employees who speak different native languages, and another new feature
of SharePoint 2010 is the Multi-Lingual User Interface (MUI), which dynamically changes elements
of the user interface based on the language specifi ed by the user. With MOSS 2007, multi-lingual
capabilities were addressed with a feature called variations (still available in SharePoint 2010), which
basically creates a separate site for each language. MUI is different in that it allows a single site to
support multiple languages. When a user visits a site with MUI enabled, SharePoint automatically
checks the language specifi ed in the browser settings and different aspects of the site can be shown in
the user’s selected language. The following table highlights the various areas that are MUI enabled:
