This chapter discusses the process of properly planning for SharePoint branding. In many
ways, this topic is similar to the planning that would go into any software project, but the
steps involved are often unique for creative projects. Even if you are experienced with plan-
ning typical design projects, this chapter will provide information for properly planning for
SharePoint branding projects.
WHY PLAN FOR BRANDING?
Having read through the fi rst two chapters now, you are probably eager to jump right into
SharePoint Designer and start creating master pages for SharePoint. While this is certainly a
tempting proposition, in any project of reasonable size it would probably be a mistake. The
process of actually creating a brand in a SharePoint site involves several steps, including creat-
ing master pages, page layouts, CSS, and more. By effectively planning your branding before
