CHAPTER 6 WORKING WITH NAVIGATION
Another major difference between SharePoint Foundation and SharePoint Server navigation is that
the top navigation in a SharePoint Foundation site is limited to showing only one level of navigation
by default. As you will see later, SharePoint Server provides drop-downs for more levels in the top
navigation.
Whether you are using SharePoint Foundation or SharePoint Server, the capability to manage navi-
gation from the web interface is a valuable feature when building a usable navigation structure.
The following sections describe how you interact with both SharePoint Foundation and SharePoint
Server publishing navigation from the web interface.
SharePoint Foundation Navigation
The Navigation Settings for SharePoint Foundation 2010 are divided into two links in the Site Settings
menu under the Look and Feel heading: the Quick launch and the Top link bar (see Figure 6-2).
FIGURE 6-2
The top link bar provides menu navigation at the top of the page, usually for links that are just
below the current location; the Quick Launch links, typically located on the left side of the page,
usually contain links to important content. The following two sections describe the two navigation
menus available from the Site Settings menu in SharePoint Foundation 2010.
