that you want to apply to your SharePoint site. You can view the Master Page Gallery from either
the SharePoint web interface or from SharePoint Designer. From the web interface, click Site
Actions ➪ Site Settings, and under Galleries click Master pages and page layouts. Generally speak-
ing, anything listed here with an extension of
.master is a master page.
There are two ways to access the Master Page Gallery from SharePoint Designer 2010. One way is
to follow these steps:
1. Open SharePoint Designer 2010 and load a SharePoint 2010 site.
2. From the Site Objects menu on the left, click Master Pages.
This displays a fi ltered view of the Master Page Gallery that shows only valid SharePoint
2010 master pages.
Alternatively, you can access the Master Page Gallery from SharePoint Designer 2010 as follows:
1. Open SharePoint Designer 2010 and load a SharePoint 2010 site.
2. From the Site Objects menu on the left, click the small pushpin icon to the right of All Files.
This shows a more advanced view of the SharePoint site collection.
3. From here, expand _catalogs ➪ masterpage (Master Page Gallery).
Using this method provides a more realistic view of the Master Page Gallery, one that
includes all the master pages as well as any page layouts.
