CHAPTER 9 PAGE LAYOUTS
FIGURE 910
Even though the page layout is created, you still need to check it in and approve it before content
authors can use it. The following steps describe how to do this.
1. Click back on the Page Layouts item in the Site Objects menu, and then click the icon for
DemoLayout.aspx.
2. From the ribbon, click Check In and select Publish a major version and click OK.
3. SharePoint will indicate that “This document requires content approval. Do you want to
view or modify its approval status?” Click Yes. This will open a web browser and show a
view of the Master Page Gallery sorted by Approval Status.
4. Click the arrow to the right of DemoLayout, select Approve/Reject, and then from the
Approve/Reject dialog, click Approved and then OK (see Figure 9-11).
Finally, you can test the new page layout by creating a page and switching its layout to the newly
created page layout:
1. Click Site Actions ➪ New Page.
2. Give the page a name, and then click Create.
3. Select the new page layout from the ribbon by clicking Page ➪ Page Layout ➪ Demo Page
Layout.
4. Because this is a very simple page layout, only the Page Content fi eld is editable. Edit the con-
tent and click Save & Close (see Figure 9-12).
