CHAPTER 6 WORKING WITH NAVIGATION
Use this section to indicate whether content authors have access to buttons for hiding and show-
ing the ribbon from the Site Actions menu. This can be useful for users who are new to the ribbon.
Generally speaking, though, even with this option set to No, users will still be able to access the rib-
bon whenever they need to interact with it.
Showing and Hiding the Tree View and Quick Launch
Both SharePoint Foundation and SharePoint Server have an item in the Site Actions menu called
Tree view. However, this item controls the hiding and showing of both the tree view navigation and
the Quick Launch or current navigation. Figure 6-16 shows the Tree view menu.
By default, this menu is set to show the Quick Launch and hide the tree view. You can change
these settings by toggling the check boxes and clicking OK. The tree view is similar to what the
tree view looked like in SharePoint 2007, and is best suited for intranet scenarios because it is
more like an Windows Explorer view of the site than anything a typical public-facing Internet
user would expect to see. Figure 6-17 shows a typical SharePoint Foundation site with the tree
view enabled.
