set against the advantage gained in being able to main-
tain a stable relative vector when the observing vessel is
manoeuvring (see Section 9.6.2).
An erratic course input would have a similarly dis-
ruptive effect. However, such a condition would also
affect the digitization of bearings. This would tend to
cause targets to jump and it would be fairly obvious to
even a casual observer that something was wrong.
