itself as a series of subsidiary beams, known as side lobes,
the maximum radiation intensity of each of which is
considerably less than that of the main lobe. The radia-
tion intensity of individual side lobes decreases as their
angle from the axis of the main beam increases.
The distribution of the radiation in the lobe pattern
which is produced by uniform phase-distribution across
a plane aperture can only be fully justified by a math-
ematical analysis which is beyond the scope of this text.
However, by some more simple considerations it can be
illustrated that such a pattern is not entirely unexpected ...
