6.1 Optimum performance
A major aim of the radar observer should be to ensure
that all the targets which can be detected
are
detected.
This
is sometimes described as achieving the maximum prob-
ability of detection of targets. For any given radar
system, the performance is limited in all circumstances
by certain design parameters such as transmitter power,
aerial gain and receiver sensitivity (see Section 3.2). On
