Motivation for the NW 7.1 Architecture

SAP was motivated to address these constraints in the NW 7.1 release. SAP PI 7.1 is one example of a SAP solution that is available for general use using NW 7.1 architecture. Some of the key new architecture improvements with the NW 7.1–based SAP business applications are as follows:

• Separation of yet-to-be-processed user requests from in-process user requests by using fast channel architecture (FCA).

• Real-time monitoring of Java processes with new and improved SAP Management Console (SAP MC).

• SAP Memory Analyzer tool to help better identify the root cause of the server process crashes.

• SAP developed its own Java SE 5–compliant JVM, referred to as SAP JVM.
