In SAP systems, the work process connection to the underlying Oracle Database and the schema ID login mechanism is a two-step process. This method is used to protect the password of the SAP<SCHEMA-ID> in an encrypted form and retrieve it from the SAPUSER table while the work process is started. The two-step schema ID and password control mechanism is explained here for a hypothetical SAP system with DV1 as the SID and SAPBIW as the schema name.
