It's Not Just the Size

By reducing the need for controls and giving employees more autonomy, small teams with precise objectives and deadlines can dramatically reduce the need for management oversight and facilitate the construction of flat organizations. But this is not all.

Google uses teams of three to six people. This number is a good one if you take Jeff Bezos's word for it: "To the degree that you can get people in a team small enough that they can be fed on two pizzas, you'll get a lot more productivity. About six people is a good size. But it depends on how hungry the people are."[72]
