The person-centred management accountability hierarchies typical of today’s organisations are increasingly ineffective in addressing VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous) challenges. Self-organising, Teal, deliberately developmental, requisite, etc. organisation designs are proving more effective in comparison, but present a new systemic adaptive challenge: they constantly demand everyone working in them to change, not only the more senior managers.

The adaptive capacity (i.e. to change their self-concept) needs to be present in each person and in each working team as a whole. It needs to happen as part of their day-to-day work ...
