The next question is – where are these tables stored? The answer is – in the main
memory, naturally. Remember also that a descriptor table is a memory array of 8-byte
entries and that the size of a table is variable. Thus, these tables are also ‘segments’ and
each of them also should have a descriptor. This may sound a bit confusing at first, but
on going ahead, this confusion will soon be overcome.
This takes us to the discussion of the processor registers which are used in the pro-
tected mode. At a particular time, the descriptor of the GDT will be available in a proces-
sor register called the ‘Global ...
