Local effects of loads on structures have negligible global effects.
Saint-Venant’s principle, proposed by the mathematician and engineer Adhémar Barré de Saint-Venant, states that the detailed effects of applying loads to structures do not travel very far from their point of application — i.e., the effects are localized and quickly become spread out as they propagate through the structure.
