Consistency refers to the level of similarity in visual style and functionality within and among different designs. Consistency enables people to efficiently transfer knowledge to new contexts, learn new things quickly, and focus attention on the relevant aspects of a task. Consistent designs feel familiar and are associated with lower cognitive workload and lower risk of errors.1
