Yahoo is both a searchable subject index and one of the granddaddies of Internet search. I remember using Yahoo when it had only a few categories and only a few thousand Web sites. (That was when I had to walk ten miles through the snow to log on to the Internet.)
That was a long time ago. Now Yahoo has, I suspect, millions of Web site listings, but unfortunately the Web is growing far faster than they can keep up with. Another thing that modifies Yahoo's listings is the fact that they charge money for listing business or profit-oriented sites. (They charge even more money for listing adult sites.)
