Finding Friendly Communities
The first thing you want to do is find out where the like-minded people hang out. Where are the communities friendly to your topic? There are a few large repositories of mailing lists so we're going to start from there.

A service of Yahoo (as you might imagine), Yahoo Groups has a directory of mailing lists that looks a lot like the regular Yahoo directory. You can either search by keyword (“kitesurfing” finds 44 results) or you can browse through the mailing lists like you'd browse the Yahoo directory.
