User Account Control (UAC) notifies you when you or the programs you are using try to make changes to your computer that might put your computer at risk. It's one of the ways that Windows defends you against viruses and other malware that try to make changes to your computer. When Windows detects a request to make changes to your computer that could be dangerous, UAC alerts you and requires that an administrator approve those changes. If you are not an administrator or if you are logged on as a Standard user, you will be prompted to provide an Administrator username and password.
