Windows Live Messenger
Windows Live Messenger is one of many free instant messaging services available. Instant messaging (IM) is a little different from e-mail in that you can communicate in real time with somebody else who is currently online using the same instant messaging network or service. There is no lag time between sending and receiving instant messages as long as you both are online and choose to respond.
To instant message with a friend you both need to:
- Be online. You must both be online at the same time. One of the features of any instant messaging program is the ability to see whether somebody is online and available. This is called status or presence.
