4.2. Choosing an Update Tool

As mentioned previously, there are three methods you can use to update Windows: automatic update, WSUS, or SCCM. With automatic update, clients receive updates directly from the Microsoft Update site. With WSUS and SCCM, clients receive their updates from a server.

Each method has pros and cons to consider:

Network bandwidth

The amount of bandwidth used to download updates from the Internet is an important consideration. If you have five clients and each of them downloads their updates from the Microsoft Update site, it's no big deal. However, if you have 500 clients downloading their updates from the Internet, it's significant. If you have more than 50 clients, you should seriously consider using one of the server ...
