8.4. Summary

In this chapter, you learned how resources can be shared and accessed over the network. Both folders and printers are commonly shared so that multiple users can access them. The Universal Naming Convention uses the format of \\ServerName\ShareName, and it is used to access both shared folders and shared printers.

Permissions are used to control who can access shared resources and how much access they are granted. Shared folders use both Share permissions and NTFS permissions. Individually, Share permissions and NTFS permissions are cumulative, granting the user the combination of all permissions granted. However, when Share permissions and NTFS permissions are combined, the user is granted only the most restrictive permission.
