The Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) includes several tools that can be used to troubleshoot and recover a system. The WinRE is an extension of the Windows preinstallation environment (PE) covered in Chapter 2, "Automating the Deployment of Windows 7."
You can access the WinRE using the following methods:
Pressing F8 when booting to a Windows 7 installation
Booting with an installation DVD
Using bootable WinRE media
Once you boot into WinRE, you'll have access to the following tools:

System Image Recovery
