Appendix B. Glossary

Many of the terms used in this book may be unfamiliar to readers. This appendix is designed to help readers comprehend the advanced terminology associated with composing music for games.

2D Platformer A game type rendered in two dimensions (x and y) where the player controls a character that generally moves from left to right on the game screen. A good example of a 2D platformer is Super Mario Bros.

3D Game A game that is rendered in three dimensions (x, y, and z). In these games the player controls a character in a virtual world that can move front/back, left/right, and up/down.

3D Middleware A set of software libraries that allow game developers to build 3D game worlds quickly and easily.
